3-for-3! Announcing wins in the regional Edward R. Murrow Awards

I am very happy to announce that my team is bringing home three more Edward R. Murrow Awards from the large market category in the RTDNA’s 10th region — a clean sweep of all three categories entered!

Our winning entries were:

  • Multimedia – An overview of five different digital reporting styles we used during the year
  • Social Media – A description of the design and typography strategy used across social media photos and videos
  • Innovation – Summarizing our articles, listicle and social media elements from the “State of Gridlock” special report

This year (like every year, it seems) the professional organizations modified their contest categories and rules for digital media organizations. These annual adjustments or additions make it difficult to know what the judges might be looking for — and that makes me even more excited to go 3-for-3!

For example, the RTDNA this year altered the social media category to allow an overview of up to 10 examples, which made it possible to showcase strategy instead of a single project. Multimedia submissions, however, was limited this year to just 5 examples.

As a result of these three regional wins, we’re now under consideration for the national award in each of the three categories!

Additionally, last month the National Headliner Awards handed us a win for best digital video under one minute. That exciting win was another example of a victory in a brand-new category.
